Olibanum, also known as Frankincense, has been traditionally burned in churches for centuries. It has a distinctive sweet / balsamic, spicy-peppery, ethereal and almost slightly soapy smell. This particular Olibanum essential oil is manufactured by the highly respected Biolandes and is of exceptional quality and is particularly sweet and delicate.
From the manufacturer:
Olibanum is a natural gum-resin that forms when incisions are made in the trunks of several species of Boswellia, a small tree native to southern Saudi Arabia and North Africa. Local populations often tap Boswellia trees in the wild. The gum is gathered several weeks later. A cleaning and grading process is then organized to prepare the various qualities for export.
Biolandes works with gum from Boswellia carterii gathered in dedicated zones of northern Somalia to ensure a supply of extracts of consistent analytical quality, and with wild Boswellia sacra gum gathered in Salalah, the “perfume capital of Arabia,” in southern Oman. In the past several years Biolandes has organized a dedicated supply of organic olibanum gum in order to offer organic essential oils.
