Musks in perfumery encompass a range of animalic, soft, velvety and clean smells, all embracing. White musk is a constructed accord - a perfumery idea built from synthetic musks rather than something you can obtain as a natural extract.
Helvetolide is a reliable starting point for a classic white musk accord - a smooth, clean musk with a skin effect. To this add just a touch of Habanolide, the “Hot iron” musk which adds power and a clean metallic element. Ethylene brassylate is an option for a sweeter and subtly powdery addition without becoming animalic. Zenolide can be used for a creamy-berry (but still very much white musk) nuance, whilst Romandolide is another smooth and rounded option. In order to build a perfume around the white musk theme, opt for transparent accompanying notes like Lily of the valley rather than strong ones since those will dominate and relegate the delicate white musk accord to the backdrop, rendering it unnoticeable.
