Lavender Maillette is a particularly fine variety of true lavender, i.e. Lavandula angustifolia, not the far more common lavandin varieties which have a higher essential oil yield but are often less coveted by perfumers. Maillette lavender is sweeter than most lavenders due to less camphoraceous notes, and hence is often preferred by fine fragrance perfumers. It's also more consistent in smell across harvests since the plants reproduce by cloning instead of by seed. This variety is produced by Biolandes, more about which can be found here.
