Ionone alpha, like the other ionones, is a violet smell. Ionone alpha in particular, out of all of ionones, is the most true sweet violet smell, and therefore the most useful when building violet accords and adding violet notes in fragrances. Like the other ionones, it can be used in trace amounts to add radiance as a high-impact note.
