Exaltolide is one of the classic musks and sits towards the middle of the musk spectrum, making it very versatile. It's soft with animalic undertones and a very slight powdery sweetness. It acts as a powerful fixative and has been popular since it's discovery in 1930. A core part of the musk palette of most perfumers.
