Geosmin is produced naturally by bacteria and is responsible for the strong earthy smell of fresh soil. It is evocative of petrichor, the fresh smell in nature after the rain and it's one of the primary components in our petrichor accord, alongside floralozone. Humans have evolved to be extremely sensitive to this smell and as such Geosmin remains powerful even in heavy dilution; use sparingly.
