How to create a yuzu note in perfumery

Yuzu is a distinctive citrus note that sits somewhere between lemon, mandarin and bitter orange but is more than simply the combination of them. In fragrance it behaves as a top note, cutting through heavier hearts and giving a composition a crisp, nuanced citrus special effect before it settles. Natural yuzu oil is the obvious way to introduce a yuzu note into perfumes. Cold-pressed yuzu oil encapsulates the full smell of yuzu alone, taken from the peel (grown primarily in Japan). It pairs cleanly with other citrus materials, florals and tea-like notes.
