Isoraldeine 95 (Alpha-isomethyl ionone) - Givaudan

As I continue working through my raw material studies, Isoraldeine 95 has been a beautiful lesson in softness, texture, and volume.

The first impression is a smooth violet note, but not sharp or old-fashioned. It has a velvety, powdery, almost orris-like softness that feels elegant and very refined. The more I study it, the more I understand why this type of material is used so often in modern perfumery.

What I find especially interesting is how it does not need to shout. It gives space, body, and a soft aura around a composition. To my nose, it feels like the kind of material that can make florals, woods, musks, and amber structures feel smoother, fuller, and more expensive.

The Givaudan quality from The Fragrance Foundry is excellent, and this is exactly the kind of raw material that helps a student understand what “volume” and “texture” mean in perfumery.

Highly recommended for anyone studying violet, orris, powdery florals, rose, woody florals, or modern perfume structure.

This is a very interesting molecule, I can see it being useful for adding volume and texture, it forms interesting interactions with other ionones.
