There are many sandalwood-type woody synthetic molecules in perfumery. Bacdanol is one of the most popular. While it doesn't smell like realistic sandalwood on its own, it's very useful none the less when constructing sandalwood accords. It's frequently employed in designer perfumes to impart a clean and modern sandalwood note. If you were to pick only one sandalwood synthetic for your perfumer's palette, this molecule would be an excellent choice.
