Bicyclononalactone is analogous to coumarin, with strong hay-like tonalities. Unlike coumarin it's not restricted by the IFRA which makes it excellent for extending coumarinic effects in accords. It's traditionally used in fougeres and is also well suited to woody accords owing to its subtle creamy-woody facets and lack of marzipan sweetness characteristic of actual coumarin.
