Boronal is very close to the ionones chemically speaking (responsible for the smell of violets). Boronal too possesses a violet as it's main character, however this comes alonside complex caramel undertones; according to one perfumer, reminiscent of the smell of autumn leaves. It's name comes from it's perceived closeness to Boronia absolute, a rich and fruity flower which is not so common in perfumery. Thus Boronal is useful in violet, boronia and autumnal accords, however it may also be used more creatively as a characterful ionone substitute.
