Octyl acetate is found naturally in frankincense and at trace amounts in citrus fruits (including oranges and grapefruits). This ester is special in that it smells like a distilled version of the luminous, clean, ethereal and purifying aspect of church incense. Some also perceive a fresh mushroom facet, others a fruity one. This unique and versatile molecule earns it's distinct place in the perfumery palette and is especially useful when painting incense accords or as a bright and celestial top-note.
