Rosemary is one of the most classic perfumery raw materials of them all, and very popular in the 1700s at the advent of European perfumery with the introduction of rosemary water type formulations. Rosemary is usually offered as an essential oil, however this much rarer product is the absolute extraction instead. It's longer lasting and hence useful if you're trying to extend rosemary into the base note. It's also less sharp, deeper and more complex than many rosemary essential oils and a very useful tool if you're trying to create a realistic rosemary note.
From the manufacturer:
The three biggest producer countries of essential oil of rosemary are Tunisia, Morocco and Spain. In the spring, before the extreme heat of summer, mobile stills are set up in the middle of the rosemary bushes, near a source of water. The following year, the newly grown sprigs are distilled over an open fire, and the distillation residues are used as fuel. To produce this absolute, we source dried rosemary and process it by extraction at our production unit in Morocco.
