Wool absolute is a relatively new addition to the perfumer's palette. It's extracted from wool shorn from sheep for other industries which would otherwise go unused. The result is very much an sheep-animalic farmyard scent, with a surprising slight blue-cheese note and perhaps more importantly, no fecal notes (which are common in animalic perfumery notes). It's useful in oud accords and exists as a so far little explored material waiting to be used to creative effect.

I am giving this five stars, not because it is nice to smell but rather because it is exactly what it said on the tin and it is a very novel ingredient for sure. The blue cheese element is very strong in here and I think I might find this rather challenging to use, however I do suspect that in a very small dilution this might be really useful especially in more musky and raunchy perfumes. When you smell this directly, it does smell incredibly cheesy however holding a little bit further from the nose there is a very nice animalic ambery warmth, and so I think and hope I will be able to utilise this quality without the cheesy element coming through when using this in a highly diluted form.
I didn’t know what to expect and imagined a wet fur rather that a smell of a lanolin cream that I remember from my childhood. I experience it as soft, oily, creamy with sweet undertones. I cannot wait to put my hands on it a see (smell;-) what I can do with it!
